Mommy might be with the maggots in Evil Dead Rise, but Sébastien Vaniček won’t deny or confirm if his upcoming Evil Dead spin-off will be connected to any of the other movies in the horror franchise. Certainly, Vaniček could be keeping certain details under wraps to avoid divulging spoilers. But the truth is that he and his collaborator (Florent Bernard) “are in the early process of the writing.” So, there’s not an answer to that question at this time, according to Vaniček. The filmmaker addressed the inquiry while promoting the premiere of Infested, aka Vermines, on Shudder. Vaniček said in an interview with Screen Rant:
“I would love to answer this question, but we are in the early process of the writing, so we have so many questions. We just wrote stuff with my co-writer. It’s the same co-writer I wrote Infested with, so I’m working with my team. I’m really glad. But we are in the process of building our story, our characters and everything, and we are chatting with each other.”

Vaniček continued:

Sébastien Vaniček’s Evil Dead Spin-Off Eyes Halloween 2025
Back in early February, the news broke that the upcoming Evil Dead spin-off would be directed by Sébastien Vaniček. He will also co-write the screenplay. After penning and helming the shorts Mayday and Crocs, the filmmaker took on his first feature-length movie, the aforementioned Infested.
And while Vaniček can’t or won’t say if his spin-off connects to any of the other movies in the franchise, or the Ash vs Evil Dead series for that matter, he does have high hopes the horror flick will be ready to drop in time for Halloween 2025. Vaniček said during an interview with Konbini (per Bloody Disgusting):
If all goes well, we could start filming at the end of 2024 — beginning of 2025, for a release that I hope for Halloween 2025.
‘Well, Hello Mr. Fancy Pants!’ Bruce Campbell Teases Brand-New Evil Dead Movies ‘Every Two to Three Years’
Grab your boomsticks because macabre masterminds Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi plan on cranking out more Evil Dead films.
It seems unlikely that the overriding protagonist of the entire franchise, Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell), will play a major role in the upcoming entry, since the “groovy” chainsaw-wielding hero hasn’t been an integral part of the last two movies: the 2013 remake and Evil Dead Rise. Regardless, Vaniček promises the Evil Dead spin-off will be “a nasty film.” Vaniček also said in the same sit-down:
“I told the studio that I wanted to make a nasty film, a film that hurts, from which you come away tested. I’m going to put all the horror I have inside, it will be cathartic, and if I haven’t ruined my career and I can continue to make films behind it, I will move on to something other than horror!”
Look for the Evil Dead spin-off in theaters, hopefully, around Halloween 2025. Meanwhile, Infested, aka Vermines, drops Friday, April 26 on Shudder.
