Father of 14-Year-Old Georgia School Shooting Suspect Arrested


Father of teen accused of killing four people at Appalachian High School arrested on multiple charges

father The teenager accused of shooting and killing four people at Appalachian High School outside Atlanta, Georgia, has been arrested.

Collin Gray, 54, the father of Colt Gray, 14, was charged Thursday with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder and eight counts of cruelty to children, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced in a social media post. During a news conference, GBI Director Chris Hosey said Collin knowingly allowed his son to possess a gun.

The news broke the same day Colt was charged with four counts of first-degree murder in connection with Wednesday’s Georgia high school shooting. Additional charges are expected and the teen is scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday morning, authorities said. Hosey and Barrow County Sheriff Judd Smith previously said the suspect would be tried as an adult.

The teen suspect has been charged with killing 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, and teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Erimi, 53, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosie said. Nine other people were injured and taken to hospitals.

Following news of the tragic school shooting, the White House released a statement Wednesday from President Joe Biden, who wrote: “What was supposed to be a joyful back-to-school season in Winder, Georgia, has turned into yet another horrific reminder of how gun violence continues to tear apart our communities. Students across the country are learning to cower and hide instead of reading and writing. We cannot continue to accept this as normal.”

The president called on Republicans in Congress to “finally say enough is enough, and work with Democrats to pass sound gun safety legislation.”
