Film Fest Gent Unveils First Round of 2024 WSA Nomimiees


Composers Ludwig Göransson and Hans Zimmer won World Soundtrack Awards.

Belgian film festival Film Fest Gent and the World Soundtrack Academy have revealed the first round of nominees for the 24th World Soundtrack Awards, which honour the contributions of international film and television score composers. This year’s event will take place on October 16 at the annual WSA Gala and Concert during Film Fest Gent.

Oppenheimer composers Göransson and Gersken Fenderricks (“Poor Things,” “Kinds of Kindness”) and Zimmer lead the nominations for Best Composer this year.

The Crown creator Martin Phipps has earned his first WSA nomination for Best Television Writer of the Year. Other nominees include Nick Chuba, Atticus Ross and Leopold Ross for Shogun, Jeff Russo for Ripley, and Natalie Holt, who received her third WSA nomination this year for Loki season two.

Lenny Kravitz and Jon Batiste were nominated for Best Original Song for “Road to Freedom” from “Rustin” and “It Never Went Away” from “American Symphony,” respectively. Paul King, Neil Hannon, and Simon Farnaby were nominated for Best Original Song for “You've Never Had Chocolate Like This” from “Wonka.”

The second round of nominations for Discovery of the Year, Best Original Soundtrack for a Belgian Production, Sabam Award for Best Original Score by a Young Composer, People's Choice Award, and Game Music Award will be announced on September 13.
