First Joker 2 Reviews Criticize ‘Boring’ Sequel, ‘Waste of Lady Gaga’

First reviews of Joker: Madness in Duo A large number of viewers have begun to flock to the film since its premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, and it seems that the sequel could be even more polarizing than its 2019 predecessor based on early reactions. Venice attendees have begun posting their full reviews and sharing their thoughts on social media, and while the film looks like a bold and daring sequel, it falls short of those qualities once you fully digest the finished product.

IndieWire didn't seem to like the film at all, leaving a comment on its X page before reviewing it saying,Joker: Madness in Duo “This movie seems intentionally bad. It’s a soulless satire designed to piss off fans and annoy everyone. The complete waste of Lady Gaga is worse than any of Joker’s crimes.”IGN commented on the second part, saying: “The worst thing about Joker: Madness in Duo “It’s its untapped potential. The film opens with the promise of a fresh approach to the Joker and Harley Quinn, placing them in a world where the opposite of cruelty is musical romance. Unfortunately, DC’s sequel is bogged down by a lengthy, tightly wound saga that not only keeps the dazzling Lady Gaga out of the spotlight, but centers the entire film around its predecessor, doing nothing new or saying anything new.”Diversity seems to reflect a lot of feelings as he says, “hypothesis”Joker: Madness in Duo“- That Arthur the killer clown and his lover Lee (who is beginning to think she is Harley Quinn), will express their identities by turning into songbirds on a music box… Sorry, but that's not a Broadway concept. It's bold It's a concept that requires bold execution. And often, that doesn't happen. Madness in duality“.” The Hollywood Reporter seems to have capitalized on this boring trend by sharing the sentiments of some other professions, saying, “For a two-and-a-quarter-hour film, it feels a bit narratively weak and sometimes boring… This second part is built more on vanity than a solid story foundation.”

How does Joker: Folie à Deux work as a musical?

The musical aspects of the film have been the subject of controversy since the sequel was announced, and more recently, since the main creators behind the film refused to describe it as a straight musical. In this regard, The Guardian reported: “It's a kind of soundtrack, with Phoenix and other artists singing show tune standards, often in fantasy pieces, similar to Dennis Potter's Pennies from Heaven. That gives it a structure and flavor that wasn't there in the first film.” While the BBC intervened, saying: “Instead of moving the story along, as songs in musicals should, they slow it down. And you're left with the feeling that Phillips didn't have enough plot to fill another two hours without them.”

Some positive reviews can be found, with some comments indicating that: Madness in duality It's a completely different movie than any moviegoer has ever seen before. Deadline's review states: With song, dance, comedy, darkness, animation, drama, violence and more, this is the musical – if it even is He is “Music – like no other” While the empire says, “It's as sweet and charming a musical love story as can be between two murderous criminals.”

Other attendees were slightly more positive about the film, praising the performances of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga as well as the film's powerful musical scenes.

It should be noted that the first film was not well received by critics either, with a 69% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 59 out of 100 on Metacritic. Despite this, the film grossed $1 billion worldwide and was nominated for 11 Oscars, including Best Picture.
