Former Cinecittà CEO Nicola Maccanico Named Head of Fremantle Italy

Former Cinecittà Studios CEO Nicola Maccanico has been appointed to the newly created position of CEO of Fremantle Italy Group.

Maccanico, a former senior executive at Warner Bros. and Sky Italia, had been leading a radical overhaul of Cinecittà when he stepped down in June, after a three-year term, when Italy's right-wing government decided to change the studios' management team.

He has been instrumental in relaunching the iconic filming facilities, which last year attracted major film shoots such as Roland Emmerich's Gladiator series “Those About to Die” starring Anthony Hopkins and Netflix's “The Decameron”.

Maccanico will now oversee Fremantle Italy’s extensive Italian operations, which include the Wildside, The Apartment Pictures, Lux Vide and Fremantle Italy brands. He will be followed by Sonia Rovai, Annamaria Morelli, Luca Bernabei and Marco Tombolini. Maccanico will also join Fremantle’s global leadership team, according to a statement.

In separate news, Fremantle France CEO Bruno Vallo has been promoted to oversee Fremantle’s production operations in France, Spain, Portugal and Israel. Vallo will “drive the strategy across these territories to continue delivering premium content across all genres,” the statement said, adding that Vallo will also join Fremantle’s global leadership ranks.

In his role as President of Fremantle France since 2018, Vallot has assembled a new team and continued to develop Fremantle France “and strengthen its position as a key player in the French television industry,” the statement said.

Andrea Scrosati, Fremantle Group Chief Operating Officer and CEO, Continental Europe, commented: “I am excited to work with Nicola and Bruno to drive the business forward in Southern Europe as we continue to invest and grow our portfolio of Fremantle businesses and brands.”
