Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back.

The duo appeared Friday night as part of the Walt Disney Studios' D23 presentation where the title of “Freaky Friday 2” was announced – “Freakier Friday.”

“It's like no time has passed,” Curtis told the cheering crowd.

Lohan revealed that the pair have kept in touch over the years, saying: “We're very close,” to which Curtis replied: “It's like we're picking up where we left off.”

With this, the trailer for the movie “Freaky Friday 2” directed by Nisha Ganatra, starring Curtis and Lohan, has been revealed.

The film is a sequel to the 2003 comedy “Freaky Friday”, starring Curtis and Lohan as mother and daughter Tess and Anna Coleman.

Curtis and Lohan are joined by Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Hayley Hudson, Lucille Song, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao. The second part of the film also includes “The Acolyte” stars Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Sophia Hammons and Julia Butters.

The original film, based on Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel of the same name, tells the story of Tess and Anna, a mother and daughter. Tess, a widowed mother, is preparing for a big wedding while Anna, a musician, is preparing for a concert that could make or break her band. When the two receive a mysterious fortune cookie that causes them to switch bodies, they are forced to accept each other unconditionally.

According to a press release from The Walt Disney Company, the sequel to the film features a “multi-generational shift,” as the film picks up years after Tess and Anna originally swapped bodies. Anna has a daughter, as well as a stepdaughter. Tess and Anna overcome the challenges that come with merging two families and discover that lightning can actually strike twice.

Disney officially announced in March 2024 that the sequel would be directed by Ganatra. The director and screenwriter has directed episodes of Hulu's Welcome to Chippendales and Max's And Just Like That…, and has directed feature films such as The High Note starring Dakota Johnson and Tracee Ellis Ross, and Late Night starring Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson.

Curtis had originally told The View in October 2022 that she had personally “written to Disney” that she wanted to make a sequel to the first “Freaky Friday” film.

Andrew Gunn, who produced the first film, is producing the sequel with former Disney executive Kristen Burr.

Although Disney has not yet announced a release date for “Freaky Friday 2,” it has confirmed that the theatrical release will be in 2025.
