Fuller House Star Christine Lakin Shares Theory on Why They Were Fired From the Netflix Series

Lakin recounted how she was so happy when she received an invitation to act from Fuller House After things went well with show creator Jeff Franklin, she was “excited” to be on the show. However, just two days before the table read, Lakin received another call, this time from her manager, telling her the schedule read had been postponed. She was later told she had been “cleared for release.”

“Then about two days before the table read, I got a call from my manager saying, ‘Yeah, something happened. They’re pushing the table. I think there’s some stuff in the script they want to rewrite.’”

“The next day, my manager called me and said, ‘Hey, I don’t know how to tell you this, but you’re being let go.’ I said, ‘What do you mean?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, they just said they’re rewriting the character and they don’t need you anymore.’ I said, ‘What did I do wrong?’ And I didn’t even go to a reading.


Fuller House It premiered on Netflix in 2016 as a sequel to the hugely popular comedy series, Full housewhich aired from 1987 to 1995. Years after the events of the original series, Fuller House The series revolves around DJ Tanner Fuller, a widowed veterinarian who returns to her childhood home with her three children, her sister Stephanie, and her best friend Kimmy. The series was a huge success, and reminded fans a lot of why its predecessor was so beloved.

While Lakin said she didn't get an official reason for her dismissal, she does have an interesting theory involving Candace Cameron Bure, who plays DJ Tanner Fuller on Fuller HouseLakin speculates that her participation in a 2012 satirical video titled “CCOKC – Child Celebrities Oppose Kirk Cameron” may have influenced the sudden change.

“I just came out. At the time, Kirk Cameron said some very public things about the LGBT community, and I thought those things were very harmful. All I could think about was that it created some bad feelings. And after seven years, my presence was not wanted. Maybe that’s what I think.”

Ultimately, Lakin expressed her disappointment at losing the role, saying, “It was disappointing for me. It really was.” She also stressed the fact that the video was meant to be sarcastic, not malicious.
