Christie said she has never stopped working on the best way to portray Brienne across her 7-season arc. The actress explained:

“The character has fed me all these years.
The character never stopped feeding me, and I never stopped working on the character until the end.
“Even in things that surprised people, like when Brian smiled when she was knighted. It made perfect sense to me that she didn’t really smile. This is the one time she smiled, because she got what she wanted in a very intimate and special way.”
