George Daniel of the 1975 and Charli XCX Drops Debut Solo Track

George Daniel, the producer and multi-instrumentalist best known as the drummer for the band The 1975 and collaborator with his fiancée Charli XCX, has released his first single.

“Screen Cleaner,” a vibrant dance song laced with drums and chopped-up vocal samples, also marks Daniel’s first release on dh2, a brand-new electronic imprint he founded via the Dirty Hit label in 1975.

Dh2 held its launch party earlier this month at Phonox in London, where Daniel was the headliner alongside the company’s first signing, Kelly Lee Owens, with additional sets from DJs Oscar Pharrell and Tim From The House.

Daniel recently gained fame for his production work on Charli XCX’s critically acclaimed album ‘Brat’, in which he was credited on the tracks ‘Club Classics’ (where Charli shouts out the lyrics ‘I wanna dance with George’) and the TikTok hit ‘Apple’. He appeared alongside Charli and previewed his solo material at several of her DJ sets throughout the summer, including at Glastonbury Festival, New York’s Boiler Room and Ibiza’s Amnesia. He also made a guest appearance with Jamie xx at his ‘The Floor’ event in London at Venue MOT.

Daniel has been the drummer for The 1975 since their formation in 2002. Along with vocalist Matty Healy, his songwriting and production work for the band has earned him four Brit Awards, two Ivor Novello Awards and a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song for “Give Yourself a Try”.

He also co-produced the Japanese House albums “Good at Falling” and “In the End It Always Does”, as well as songs by Caroline Polachek, Beabadoobee and No Rome.
