The German drama film “All About Me and Everything” (also known as “All About Me”) won the Best Film award at the 7th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest). The festival's awards are known as the Golden Globe Awards.
Directed by Michael Vetter Nathansky, the film is about a woman trying to reconnect with her partner in a failed relationship, and had its world premiere in February at the Berlin International Film Festival. At the Berlin International Film Festival, the film also won Best Actress for Anne Schwartz, and Nathansky won Best Screenplay.
“The film boldly confronts the real challenges facing the working class, especially the struggles associated with monetary deficit.” [and] “The film skillfully transforms these harsh realities into cinematic excellence,” the jury said in a statement.
The Best Director award went to Alireza Ghasemi and Raha Amir Fazli for their film “In Brothers’ Land.” The film tells the story of three members of an Afghan family who are refugees in Iran and was praised for its bold narrative of a relevant global issue.
Taiwanese star Wu Kang-ren won the Best Actor award for his role as a mute man in the Taiwan-Malaysia co-production “Abang Adik.” Jack Tan also won the Best Supporting Actor award for the same film. “Abang Adik” has been winning awards on the international festival circuit for more than a year, taking home prizes at the Far East Film Festival (Udine), Fribourg, the First Youth Film Festival and the Taiwan Golden Horse Film Festival. China’s Yu Junfen also won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Michigan International Film Festival for her role in “The Great Phuket.”
Togo Xavier won the Best Cinematography award for his work on Rapture, while the Emerging Talent Award went to Betania and Brazilian director Marcelo Bota.
As previously announced, the festival presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Asian cinema icons Christine Hakim and Kore-eda Hirokazu. In his acceptance speech, Kore-eda discussed the global power of cinema.
