Glen Powell Brings His Dog Brisket Along for ‘Twisters’ L.A. Premiere

A terrier poodle mix was the star of the Los Angeles premiere of Twisters. The dog — which doesn’t actually appear in the film at all — arrived in the arms of the film’s actual star, Glen Powell, playing the role of leading man’s best friend. Brisket posed for photos with the actor and fellow cast members Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos.

On Sunday, Powell shared a carousel of pictures on Instagram from the film’s U.S. premiere. Brisket was featured in three of the images, but has made a number of appearances across the actor’s account since he was first adopted last year. “It’s a ruff world out there, so I thought it was about time I hire a proper bodyguard,” Powell wrote on Instagram in July 2023. “Meet BRISKET – 1.5 pounds of raw power.”

Since then, on his own personal account, Brisket has racked up more than 44,000 Instagram followers. The most recent post on the pup’s page, a collaborative post with the official Twisters account, is a video of Powell talking about their journey together. “The ‘Twisters’ movie made me realize that my heart was soft enough to become a father,” he said. “So I adopted an adorable puppy named Brisket. Brisket is a dog that I’ve gotten here since I’d been in Oklahoma City to keep me company — you know, since the tornadoes just don’t cuddle the same.”

Last week, Powell recruited Brisket for a classic Instagram thirst trap, buried eight photos deep in a dump of pictures of the dog. In the mirror picture, the actor snaps a shot of himself holding Brisket with a towel wrapped precariously low on his waist. “Shortly after being adopted, @hotbrisket joined the cast of ‘Twisters’ and was quickly called “the Lassie of his generation,’” he captioned the carousel. “Rumors are swirling of him leading a ‘Homeward Bound’ reboot that would crown him as ‘Hollywood’s King of the Animal Kingdom.’”

Twisters opens in theaters on July 19. It marks Powell’s latest big screen film, following the limited theatrical release of Netflix’s Hit Man and the wide release of Anyone But One, in which he starred opposite Sydney Sweeney.

“I’ve always believed you should just keep living your life, so I’ve never really noticed it. I think this is the first year that I’ve felt a difference in the type of people who are fans, even just for my family,” Powell told Rolling Stone last year about his sudden uptick in stardom. “I’m very close to my family. I keep my family very close, and I tend to put my family out front. I’ve realized not everyone is a good type of fan, and not everyone has your best interest in mind. It’s just made me a little bit more aware of protecting the people around me that I love.”

He added: “My favorite thing that’s happening now, because I think I’ve played in so many different boxes and genres, is I can tell when someone walks up to me what role they probably recognize me from based on their energy and their age. It’s very fun. My favorite, though, and one that throws me off constantly, is when I’m walking by a construction site, and a guy’s like, “Hey, dude, you mind if I ask you a question?” I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be Top Gun.’ He’s like, ‘Are you in Scream Queens?’ It’s hilarious. Also, the number of professional athletes, the biggest, most terrifying men you’ve ever seen in your whole life, are all Scream Queens fans. It surprises me every time.”
