Glen Powell isn’t here to blame Ryan Gosling. The “Twisters” and “Anyone But You” star recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to respond to a widely shared comment from an unnamed Hollywood producer who called Powell “the biggest rising star in Hollywood,” and gave Gosling an indirect compliment in the process.
The unnamed producer told The Wrap that Powell is officially a movie star “in the sense that people now go to the theater to see him.” But the comment included some Gosling-specific shades, adding: “Unlike an actor like Ryan Gosling whose appeal is mostly limited to female audiences, Glenn appeals to both females and males.”
“Gosling is a legend. I'm just Glenn,” Powell said in response to Gosling's famous “I'm just Ken” line from “Barbie.” The response quickly gained traction on the social media platform, garnering 100,000 likes and counting.
Powell has emerged as a star at a time when Hollywood is struggling to launch new A-list stars. George Clooney recently told GQ magazine that the changes at the major studios have reduced Hollywood's ability to create movie stars.
“They don't develop stars the way the studio system used to,” Clooney said of Hollywood.[Brad Pitt and I] “We were at the end of that time, where you could work in a studio and make three or four movies, and there was a plan for it. I don’t think that’s necessarily the case now. So it’s hard for you to sell someone something in exchange for a movie star.”
“It's a great honor to be here,” said Jeff Bock, an analyst at Exhibitor Relations. diverse Earlier this year, Powell and Timothée Chalamet said they were “opening up a new talent pool of superstars,” adding: “This is great for the audience, but more importantly it’s a huge relief for the industry, which has been reliant on aging talent for far too long.”
Powell has a slew of upcoming projects on the horizon, including Edgar Wright's “Running Man” and the Chad Powers comedy series on Hulu.
