Independent film distributor Gravitas Ventures has acquired the U.S. and Canadian rights to Another Happy Day , written and directed by Nora Pfeiffer. The comedy, starring Lauren Lapkus, Marilyn Dodds-Frank, Jane Ely and Carrie Coon, is set to hit digital and VOD channels on October 1.
According to the film's synopsis: “Desperate for some companionship, delirious new mom Joanna stumbles into an unlikely friendship with her estranged aunt Miriam, a reclusive actress. Miriam seems like the perfect companion for Joanna: artistic, honest, eccentric, and a total hater of children. But everything spirals out of control when Joanna tries to care for her aunt instead of her own baby. 'Another Happy Day' is a silly, tense comedy that explores postpartum depression, intergenerational friendship, and what it means to be a family.”
Mike Castle, Frances Guinan, Hannah Durkin, Alex Weissman, Brian Coffey, Adam Boss, Nora Pfeiffer, Jessie Holder Tourtelot, and Tim Kazurinski complete the cast.
According to Gravitas Ventures, the film was produced by a team of moms, and the production prioritized eight-hour workdays and made parental childcare a key component of budget and fundraising efforts.
“Another Happy Day is the movie I wish I had seen before I became a mother,” Pfeiffer said in a statement. “It’s a funny, thoughtful, and tender film about a new mom who doesn’t know how to be a new mom. It’s a story about the surreal postpartum period, a kind of depression that can be easily ignored.”
The film was produced by Tourtelot, Pfeiffer and Quinn Nicholson. Cohn, Lapkus, Eugene Sun Park, Chris Anderson, Anna von Mertens, and Howard and Bev Rossman served as executive producers.
