Green Day Forced to Pause Detroit Concert Due to Unauthorized Drone

Green Day temporarily halted their concert at Comerica Park in Detroit on Wednesday night due to a “potential security issue.” During their performance of “Longview,” the band members left the stage without warning.

Billboard Security officials confirmed that an “unauthorized drone” had been spotted flying in the stage’s field of view, and the band was removed from the stage. No explanation was given to the crowd, who continued to sing in the band’s absence, although a message soon appeared on the stage’s video screens saying: “Show stopped. Please wait for details.”

The band members—Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool—returned 10 minutes later to resume the song. Armstrong said he did not address why the band had left, but instead said, “How are you guys doing? We'll pick up where we left off.”

Armstrong later referred to the situation after performing “Welcome to Paradise,” telling the crowd, “There's no one who can stop us. I'll tell you that.”

After the show, Green Day took to social media to explain the situation, writing: “Detroit! We apologize for the delay to tonight's show. Stadium security asked us to evacuate the stage while they dealt with a potential security issue. Detroit Police quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thank you for your understanding.”

Green Day is currently on its Saviors Tour, which continues at Denver's Coors Field on September 7. This is the second time the band has had to cancel a concert in recent times. In August, Green Day rushed to end a show at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in St. Louis when a lightning storm approached the venue.
