Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer's Memoirs, True Gretsch“Iron Man” has soared to the top of the New York Times bestseller list amid speculation she could be a vice presidential candidate.

Despite her categorical denials, the governor has been the subject of rampant rumors about a possible 2024 presidential run for months, with some Democrats and donors pushing her as an alternative to President Biden. Now that Democrats have rallied around Vice President Kamala Harris in the wake of Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the race, Whitmer is being touted as a potential vice presidential pick. Whitmer co-chaired Biden’s reelection campaign and signed on to the same role for Harris’s campaign, but she has flatly denied any interest in being Harris’ No. 2, saying, “I’m not leaving Michigan.”

The 176-page book covers key moments in Whitmer’s second and final term. In a candid and often humorous style, Whitmer writes about Michigan’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and other moments in her career. She talks about the struggle with the Trump White House to secure Federal Emergency Management funds and personal protective equipment during the pandemic, as well as a right-wing militia group’s plot to kidnap her that was thwarted by the FBI.
