Halsey shared a post on Tumblr on Tuesday, saying she regretted returning to music with the song “Lucky,” after seeing the hateful reaction from many fans.
“My fans are meaner to me than anyone else on the planet,” Halsey wrote. “I don’t speak for all of you, of course. But in the past there was only a minority who were mean to me and now it seems like the majority are just there to occasionally chime in with their opinion about how much they hate me or how awful I am.”
“It’s hard to want to participate in a space that’s completely devoid of any kindness, compassion, patience; or even being true to human dignity,” she continued. “Especially after years of hiding from interactions for fear of this exact thing happening. I don’t know, man.”
Halsey then expressed regret over her return to music over the past few months. She announced her comeback with the release of “The End” in early June. The song describes her experience after being diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus and a rare T-cell lymphoma disorder, and was intended as a message to her fans.
“I almost lost my life. I’m not going to do anything that doesn’t make me happy anymore. I can’t handle it spiritually,” Halsey continued. “When I got sick, all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of this again, but I don’t even know what that would be. this It's not like that anymore and I want to crawl into a hole and regret it when I get back.
After sharing the post, she added that she was downloading a stripped-down version of her song “Lucky” by Britney Spears and was on her way to get a PET scan. “This is the crazy irony of what my life has become. I am a human being, not a character in a music video,” she added.
In the video for her song “Lucky,” which was released last week, Halsey appears as a pop star struggling to maintain her personal life and health while trying to keep it together on stage and in front of the camera. In one poignant part of the video, Halsey takes off her pink wig to reveal that she is bald, and that she is about to receive treatment for her medical issues.
Halsey's next album is set to be released. If I can't have love, I want power.which was launched in August 2021. An official release date for the new project has not yet been set, although it is expected to arrive this year.
