Halsey Announces ‘Confessional’ Concept Album ‘The Great Impersonator’


“I spent half my life trying to be someone else. I never stopped to ask myself: Is this the person you’re proud to leave behind? Is this really you?” she asks in the video.

The trailer cuts between clips of Halsey wearing different outfits over the decades. “What if I started my career in the early 2000s?” she asks before a verse from her song “Lucky,” which she sings in a Britney Spears-esque way.

“The ’90s? The ’80s? The ’70s?” Halsey asks as she goes through different songs from her album that cover musical genres from each era. Clips of her dressed as she would if she were in each decade are shown.

“Am I still Halsey every time? In every timeline? Do I still get sick? Do I become a mother? Am I happy? Alone? Have I done enough? Have I told the truth?” she says in the video.

The clip ends dramatically with Halsey asking herself, “I've spent half my life being someone else. And I've never stopped to ask myself: Is this the person you're proud to leave behind? Is this really you?”

Halsey marked her comeback with the release of “The End” in early June. The song describes her experience after being diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus and a rare disorder called T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder, and was intended as a message to her fans.
