The pop star's new song includes Britney Spears' hit song of the same name as well as Monica's “Angel of Mine.”
Halsey has officially kicked off her new album cycle with a song that pays homage to 2000s pop. “Lucky” is a mashup of Britney Spears’ song of the same name and Monica’s “Angel of Mine.”
In “Lucky,” Halsey reflects on their complicated relationship as they navigated health issues, motherhood, and heartbreak while in the public eye. The raw and honest new song sees the singer, who uses the first-person pronoun, reflect on her desire to be seen and heard as she pursued this career as a teenager, unaware of the sacrifices and obstacles she would endure along the way. The beats intersect with Monica’s signature vocals as Halsey sings the chorus of “Lucky” to Spears over it. Spears had given Halsey her personal approval, and she played it for the icon early in the recording process.
“Lucky” builds on “The End,” a promotional single Halsey released earlier this summer that more directly addressed the private health battles she’s faced since being diagnosed with lupus and a rare T-cell disorder in 2022. “In short, I’m lucky to be alive. In short, I wrote an album,” she shared with fans. “It starts with ‘The End.'”
Halsey's upcoming fifth album follows 2021's If I can't have love, I want power.which was produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Since then, Halsey has appeared in Singing 2 And Calvin Harris Funk Wave Rebound Vol. 2Last year, she released a solo version of “Die 4 Me,” her 2019 collaboration with Post Malone and Future.
