Dark Horse Comics celebrates Hellboy’s 30th Anniversary by unveiling a collection of limited-edition screen prints that spotlights the seminal moments and rich illustrations that have defined Mike Mignola’s series.

The new commemorative items include two main offerings: reproductions of the cover from Seed of Destruction #1, Hellboy’s debut in 1994, and a promotional comic advertisement for Wake the Devil. These prints are not only a nod to the beginnings of this iconic series but also a piece of comic history for enthusiasts and collectors.

Fans can look forward to these prints being produced on high-quality 100# Cougar uncoated paper, each measuring 24 by 36 inches. The Seed of Destruction #1 print, priced at $75, will be available in a run of 500 units. The Wake the Devil Comic Ad print, slightly more accessible at $60, will have a more limited run of 250 units. Both are exclusively available for pre-order via Dark Horse Direct and are expected to ship between August and September.

The Seed of Destruction #1 print is particularly notable for its 10-color depiction of Mignola’s original cover art, featuring not only Hellboy but also Arthur Adams’ Monkeyman and O’Brien. This piece captures the essence of Mignola’s style, which is marked by a blend of shadow and light, contributing to the atmospheric storytelling that fans have come to adore. On the other hand, the Wake the Devil print offers a humorous glimpse into the promotional efforts surrounding the early days of Hellboy, presented in striking black and white.

Eric Garza, the designer and content curator working with Dark Horse on this anniversary project, praises Mignola’s unique contribution to the comic world. The designer stated:

Mike has been instrumental in crafting narratives that mix gothic, horror, and adventure in a way that’s visually engaging and emotionally resonant.

He pointed out that the enduring appeal of Hellboy stems from its masterful fusion of various genres, from gothic romance to folklore, all brought to life by Mignola’s distinctive artistic vision. This anniversary celebration revisits the past and appreciates the artistic journey that Hellboy has undergone. These prints serve as a tribute to the legacy of Mignola’s creation.

Dark Horse Comics Launches Hellboy-Inspired Loteria for 30th Anniversary

As part of its ongoing celebration of Hellboy’s 30th anniversary, Dark Horse Comics has also introduced a slew of other unique merchandise that pays homage to the beloved character. Among the standout items is a Hellboy-inspired version of the traditional Mexican game Loteria, which mixes the classic gameplay with the eerie and adventurous world of Hellboy.
