Henry Cavill on Guy Ritchie’s Set

Henry Cavill on Guy Ritchie’s Set

Summary

  • Henry Cavill praised filmmaker Guy Ritchie for creating a safe and fun environment on set for creativity to flourish.
  • Co-star Alex Pettyfer highlighted the importance of the collaborative and equal atmosphere brought about by Cavill.
  • The cast of
    The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
expressed strong bonds and fun experiences during filming.

Henry Cavill is sporting a full beard in his upcoming collaboration with filmmaker Guy Ritchie, but this time there isn’t any kind of facial hair controversy like the one that swirled about the productions of Mission: Impossible — Fallout (2018) and Justice League (2017). And during an exclusive interview with the cast of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which also included co-stars Alex Pettyfer and Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Cavill opened up about their experiences working on Ritchie’s spy movie. Cavill said during his sit-down with MovieWeb:

“It felt comfortable. Guy is really good at creating an environment where creativity feels safe.
He’s a really good leader on set
. He gives everyone their room to shine as well.
And without sounding corny, because people always say this, they say it feels like family. It really does
, because he’s been working with a lot of those guys since his earliest movies on the crew.”

“And it’s not too straight-laced,” continued Cavill, who threw some light-hearted shade:

“There’s a casual aspect of the whole thing where, if you are acting like a knob, he’ll tell you, ‘You’re being a knob.’ If you come up with terrible ideas, you will be made fun of by him and everyone else. The crew are coming up with ideas. But if you come up with great ideas, he’ll either steal them and make them his ideas. Or, he will praise you and it’ll become a great thing.” He went on:

And it’s all fun. And that’s what movie making, in my opinion, should be like. And there’s a real freedom of language and creativity on set. And so that’s what it felt like for me.

Henry Cavill and Guy Ritchie’s Unique Collaboration

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare co-star Alex Pettyfer says Guy Ritchie’s film is “an absolute wild ride.” In MovieWeb’s exclusive interview with the cast of the upcoming action comedy, Pettyfer emphasizes the importance of the creative collaboration between Henry Cavill and Ritchie. The duo teamed up previously for another action comedy in 2015’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Pettyfer told MovieWeb:

“I mean, I have to second what Henry said. But it also comes from the collaboration that I think these two men have had before. And Guy creates this, as Henry said, this freedom and collaborative experience. But there is also Mr. Cavill, who brings this equality between all of us and this humbleness and fun. Real fun, you know, and brotherhood. And I think that starts from the captains of the ship.”
