Horror Movies to Watch: September Picks Include The Substance and More


A sequel prepared decades later,Beetlejuice Beetlejuice“The Last of Us Part II” (now in theaters from Warner Bros.) was received warmly at its Venice premiere, with critics saying it was a fun bit of nostalgia. While this new chapter may not reinvent the wheel, the original 1988 film was so influential for millennial horror fans that it will be a must-see. (Read more diverse(Full review here.)

Front room(Now in theaters from A24) is the wild-looking feature from the Eggers brothers (who are also brothers to Robert Eggers, director of “The Lighthouse”). Brandy stars as a pregnant woman trying to care for her annoying stepmother, who, according to the trailer, is too racist to get along with her new caregiver. Plus, she wants to steal the baby! The material(In theaters September 20 from Mubi) It's been getting rave reviews on the festival circuit as a body horror with a superior mind. Demi Moore stars as Elizabeth Sparkle, a TV personality who gets fired from her job and tries out a new beauty treatment that resembles the fountain of youth. Lots of social satire and twists ensue in this “be careful what you wish for” story. (Read diverse(Full review here.)

Halle Berry returns to the world of horror with the movie “Never let go(In theaters September 20 from Lionsgate), an emotional supernatural thriller from director Alexandre Aja. While Aja has a keen eye for the spectacle in films like “High Tension” and its remake of “Hills Have Eyes,” this story about a mother protecting her children from malevolent forces in the jungle feels bordering on sentimentality for him. However, he also directed the gorgeous, understated alligator thriller “Crawl,” another survival tale, so perhaps Perry can help him conjure up that magic again.

I would also suggest that you, since it is in its final cycle, check out the “Alien: Romulus(Now in theaters from 20th Century Studios) on the big screen — even if the somewhat mixed reviews make you wary. While it doesn’t do everything right, there’s plenty for horror fans to enjoy in this chapter, which owes much to director Fede Álvarez’s love of the horror genre. Missing “trap“Will the movie be released in theaters? It’s available now on video-on-demand (via Warner Bros.), and while M.
