HBO's “House of the Dragon” has been leaked online again.
Several scenes from the Season 2 finale — set to air on August 4 — leaked on TikTok on Tuesday night, just five days before the episode airs on HBO and streams on Max. One TikTok account posted 14 videos and about 30 minutes of footage from the unreleased finale; the videos have racked up between 50,000 and 100,000 views at the time of this article’s publication. About three hours after the videos were posted, the TikTok account was banned, but the videos have made their way to Twitter/X and Reddit.
This situation mirrors what happened to the final episode of the first season of “House of the Dragon,” which leaked online two days before its scheduled airing in October 2022. The previous leak came from a distribution partner in Europe, the Middle East or Africa, according to HBO at the time. diverse I reached out to HBO and TikTok for comment on the leak of the Season 2 finale, but did not immediately receive a response from either.
Game of Thrones has had its share of online leaks over the course of its eight seasons, especially during its final season. Several episodes of season eight have appeared on illegal sites, and even on legitimate platforms like DirecTV Now and the German Amazon Prime Video platform, which releases episodes before they are scheduled to air.
With so many international distribution partners catering to diehard fans of the series, it has proven nearly impossible to get a full season of Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon out without spoiling it ahead of schedule. HBO tried to prevent piracy of the Season 2 finale by not sending out footage of the finale to journalists, but unfortunately, the episode leaked anyway.
