House of the Dragon’s Steve Toussaint Reacts to Shocking Corlys Reveal

Steve Toussaintthe actor who plays Lord Corlys Velaryon in Dragon HouseHe was as shocked as anyone else when he discovered that his character had cheated on Rhaenys, and that he had two children out of wedlock. Infidelity in the World Dragon House And game of thrones (Jon Snow is probably the most famous character on TV whose mother remains a controversial topic of discussion.) It’s not out of the norm. While fans usually know such crucial points in advance, Corley’s secret was still a shocking revelation that thrilled the actor who plays him.

Since the second season of Dragon House Early in the series, fans knew there was something strange about Corliss’s constant contact with characters we didn’t know about. The character kept a low profile until Rhaenys was killed, and we saw him grieving the death of his wife and one of the show’s main characters. Then in episode 5, Rhaenys asked him to help, and in the following episode, we saw him accept the offer. However, we also saw that Corliss had an affair, and that affair had consequences.

Toussaint explains to TVLine that he was also shocked by the blow to his character's integrity:

“Honestly, I’ll admit that my reaction was similar to yours when I read the script. Because for a year and a half, while promoting the show, I was focused on ‘she’s just me,’ ‘she’s the right person,’ and so on. And then I read it, and I was like, ‘Excuse me?!” [

] But I still insist that his feelings for her are real, as Eve might say, in that very “masculine” way.

The actor also points out that the problem isn't that he has one illegitimate son, but two, Allen (Abu Bakr Salim) and Adam (Clinton Liberty). And Eve Best, the actress who plays Renera, seems to be in tune with his somewhat enigmatic character:

“My thought was, ‘Well, yeah, one kid. Well, great. He’s a sailor, blah, blah, blah.’ But then he came back and said,

“My child, so what is this? … So, I'm still trying to figure out a way out of this… Eve and I had long conversations where she was like, 'Part of what's bothering Reine is that this person must be really special.' At first, I was like, 'No, no, maybe not.' But yeah, I think maybe he is. Maybe we'll explore that later. I don't know.”

Corlys Velaryon's new heirs are not just a plot device.

Again, this was nothing new. In previous episodes, we saw Allen and Adam involved in the Corliss affair, which had to mean something. However, in episode six, titled “Smallfolk,” it was confirmed that they were in fact Corliss’s sons. Allen gained attention for bravely saving Corliss’ life, but in the episode, he was also seen shaving his head to hide his true hair color: he has Valyrian hair. It’s their bloodline that really matters; after the rogue dragon Sesmoke proved seemingly uncontrollable, the beast chose Adam to be its knight.
