As Team USA celebrates its gymnastics gold medal win this week, all eyes will shift from the vault to the lavender-colored track in Paris when Sha’Carri Richardson makes her Olympic debut on Friday. After missing Tokyo due to a positive marijuana test at the 2021 Olympic trials, Richardson will make her Paris 2024 Summer Olympics debut as the favorite to win the women’s 100-meter dash. The first round kicks off on Friday, August 2 at 2:50 a.m. PT / 5:50 a.m. ET.
All of the athletics events at this year’s Games will be broadcast on NBC and streamed live on Peacock, the official channel for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. Aside from Peacock, the best way for cable users to watch the Games is on any live TV streaming service with access to NBC, such as DirecTV, Sling TV, Fubo TV, and Hulu + Live TV, all of which offer free trials.
Richardson is the current world champion after setting a world record of 10.71 seconds at the U.S. trials in June. She will enter the Games as the fastest woman in the world.
Jamaica’s Sherica was due to compete against Richardson in the 100m on Friday but announced earlier this week that she would not compete in the 100m. However, Richardson will face stiff competition from three-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who has won the race twice. Meanwhile, two-time Olympic champion in the 100m and 200m, Elaine Thompson-Herah, will not compete due to injury.
On the men's side, Team USA's Noah Lyle is expected to win his first Olympic title in the men's 100m.
In total, there will be 48 athletics events taking place from 1 to 11 August, consisting of 23 men's and 23 women's events as well as two mixed events (the 4 x 400m mixed relay and the 35km mixed team race walk), mainly at the iconic Stade de France in Paris.
Stream all the action from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris live on Peacock.
