With the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year, over, American tennis fans’ hopes have been dashed once again. After Taylor Fritz lost to Jannik Sinner, American male tennis players have been without a Grand Slam title since 2003.
American men's tennis players will have a chance to make up for their loss when the Laver Cup gets underway in Berlin tomorrow, September 20. Given the time difference, you'll need to wake up early if you're a US-based fan looking to watch the tournament live.

The Laver Cup, held at the Oper Arena in Berlin, is different from other tennis tournaments. The tournament is modeled after the Ryder Cup, a golf tournament where Team Europe faces Team USA. In the Laver Cup, Team Europe faces Team World. Since its inception in 2017, Team Europe has been captained by Björn Borg, while Team World has been captained by John McEnroe.
2022 saw Team World’s first win over Team Europe, and they easily beat Team Europe again in 2023. They will be looking to win a third straight title with Americans Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton representing Team World this year. The team will be completed by Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina, Alejandro Tapello of Chile and Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia.
Team Europe suffered a setback when Rafael Nadal withdrew from the tournament, but still has plenty of top-level talent on its roster, including ATP No. 2 Alexander Zverev, No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 5 Daniil Medvedev. Grigor Dimitrov replaced Nadal, and Norway's Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas completed the team.
The four matches from day one have been announced, with Rod Cerundolo, Tsitsipas Kokkinakis and Dimitrov facing off against Thapelo. The final match of the night will be a doubles match with Alcaraz and Zverev facing Fritz and Shelton.
