Hulu has given a series order to a comedy titled “Mid-Century Modern,” diverse I have learned.
The multi-camera was first reported to be in the works for the streaming service in June. It stars Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham, and Linda Lavin.
The official show plot states that the series follows “three best friends—gay men of a certain age—who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years together in Palm Springs, where the richest man lives with his mother. As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there's always someone around to remind you that it would be better if you had neck surgery.”
You can find the full character description below.
The series was created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, both of whom also serve as executive producers. Lin and Boehmer are also executive producers, along with Ryan Murphy and James Burrows, with Burrows directing the pilot episode. 20th Television is the studio.
Hulu’s current original comedy offerings include “Only Murders in the Building,” “Unprisoned” and the animated series “Solar Opposites.” The company is also pushing stand-up comedy with plans to launch a new comedy hub on the platform in November.
Character descriptions
Nathan Lane as Bunny Schneiderman – A successful businessman who has decided to retire, Bunny is always looking for love, but first he must convince himself that he is worthy of it.
Linda Lavin as Sybil Schneiderman – Like her son, Sybil's strengths are her weaknesses: wise, caring, and a rebel against convention – which sometimes means she's critical, stifling, and amoral.
Matt Bomber as Jerry Frank – Jerry left the Mormon church and his marriage in his early twenties after his wife and the rest of the congregation told him he was gay. Now a literal Latter-day Saint, Jerry has a pure heart. He is also tough in body and soft in mind.
Nathan Lee Graham as Arthur – Arthur is a fashion industry veteran who believes that life will never reach the grace and brilliance it would if only he were in charge.
