Screenwriter Akiva Goldsman has Provided a very exciting update regarding the development of the long-awaited sequel, I am the legend 2Will Smith's fate in the next post-apocalyptic film has been confirmed.Speaking during Collider's “Producers & Production” panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Goldsman revealed that I am the legend 2 The film will actually take the alternate ending of the first film, in which Smith's character Dr. Robert Neville survives his encounter with the mutants who have taken over Earth, as the official ending.
“We're working on completing the alternate version. The one we talked about earlier, where Will lives and things haven't gone so well for humanity.”
Theatrical ending of I Am LegendThe film was highly controversial at the time, as it strayed far from Richard Matheson’s source material and had Will Smith’s character make the ultimate sacrifice to save the other survivors. The film ends on an optimistic note, with a possible cure on the horizon. But it seems that all of this will be completely wiped away in the future. I am the legend 2This gives him, according to Goldsman, a “really exciting playing field” to work in.
“Yes, and I’ll tell you something about Legend — it’s counterintuitive, what happens to New York 30 years later, because you imagine a post-apocalyptic scenario, but if you actually do research on what happens to cities, it’s the exact opposite. The world comes back, and it comes back in a kind of spectacular way. So, it’s a really exciting playing field for all of us because it’s not the I Am Legend that your dad imagines.”
Akiva Goldsman Announces 'Very Good News' About I Am Legend 2
Creed And Black Panther Michael B. Jordan will join Will Smith in the sequel, and while we haven't heard much about the project, Goldsman continues to hint that there will be “some very good news” coming soon.
“That’s what’s happening with I Am Legend 2: I wrote a draft. The idea is that Michael B. Jordan and Will Smith are going to be in the movie. I wrote a draft, and that draft put me, Will, Mike, and our producing partners in a room where we spent a week doing really fun things talking about the story. I wrote another draft based on that week, and I imagine there’s going to be some really good news coming soon.”
