The wait for Euphoria‘s anticipated third season continues. In a newly released statement, HBO shared that the series cast was allowed to pursue other opportunities. The statement follows rumors that the Zendaya-starring series had been cancelled, and while it counters this, it suggests that fans will have a lengthy wait for Season 3 to arrive. According to Entertainment Weekly, scripts for the upcoming season are not yet complete. The statement reads:

Euphoria, which has earned praise for its talented cast’s performances but scrutiny for graphic visuals, follows a group of high school students as they grapple with issues of drugs, sex, and violence. The show’s cast is very much “in-demand,” with many having several projects in the works.

Zendaya has earned several accolades for portraying the teenage addict Rue in Euphoria, including two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, and a Critics’ Choice Award. She most recently starred in Dune: Part Two and will next lead Luca Guadagnino’s sports drama Challengers. Fellow Emmy winner Colman Domingo recently starred in Rustin (earning an Academy Award nod) and will next portray Joe Jackson in Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic, Michael.

Sydney Sweeney has also maintained a busy filming schedule, recently appearing in Reality, Anyone But You, Madame Web, and Immaculate. She will next star alongside Julianne Moore in Echo Valley. Jacob Elordi has received praise for his work on Saltburn and Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla. He has a number of projects coming up, including Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, in which he will portray The Monster.

Hunter Schafer’s most recent credits include The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Cuckoo. She will next appear in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness alongside Emma Stone, Jesse Plemmons, and Margaret Qualley. Meanwhile, Maude Apatow has focused her efforts on theater, appearing in productions of Little Shop of Horrors and Cabaret.

Euphoria also stars Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Nika King, Storm Reid, and Austin Abrams. In July, Angus Cloud, who portrayed the lovable drug dealer Fezco, passed away.

Will Euphoria’s Third Season Include a Time Jump?

Euphoria fans are no strangers to the waiting game. While the first season premiered in 2019, the second season did not arrive until 2022. Given the amount of time that has passed since we last saw Rue and the crew, there has been speculation that the series will see a time jump in Season 3.

According to The Wrap, that is exactly what will happen when Euphoria returns, as the teenage characters will move from their high school days into early adulthood. This seems to have been in the works for quite some time as Euphoria‘s costume designer, Heidi Bivens, discussed a potential five-year time jump early last year:

“I’ll do everything I can to make the third season of the show successful. I’m really excited to read the scripts. There is talk of it being approximately five years in the future, and that they’re not in high school anymore. Dorothy’s not in Kansas anymore. I mean, it might be a total trip. Who can say? But knowing Sam’s brain, it’s gonna be exciting, and he will challenge all of us, because he won’t want to repeat himself. It’ll be something new for the audience to discover.”

Euphoria
‘s Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in 2025.
