The Songbook Trail begins with Swift's Lover era, focusing on her music video for “The Man,” in which she appears dressed as a man. The outfit, which consists of pieces by Versace and Tommy Bahama, is displayed in a foyer next to Swift's wig, beard, director's chair, and MTV VMA award for the video.
The installation is intended to be placed between sculptures of two goddesses, Diana and Venus, and in front of a series of portraits by male artists. “In this institution, which is over 150 years old, female creativity has not been celebrated,” says Bailey. “Obviously we have done that recently, but to be able to show that in dialogue with the patriarchy was very fun.” [and] “Just like Taylor.”
