Prime Video has released a high-performance trailer for the spy series “Citadel: Diana,” starring Italian Matilda De Angelis (“The Undoing”) as Diana Cavalieri, a Citadel undercover agent fighting against an enemy syndicate in near-future Milan.
The six-episode show — which represents the most ambitious Italian original to date — is the Italian installment of Prime Video’s high-quality “Citadel” franchise that debuted in April 2023. The series is meant to serve as a launching pad for multiple shows set in different countries that are all connected through plot and characters.
De Angelis, a rising Italian star, achieved international success in Susanne Bier's The Undoing, alongside Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant. She also appeared with Liev Schreiber in Across the River and Into the Trees, an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's novel, directed by Paola Ortiz.
Set in Milan in 2030, “Citadel: Diana” follows the independent global spy agency Citadel, which was wiped out eight years ago by Manticore, a powerful enemy syndicate that manipulates the world from the shadows. Since then, undercover Citadel agent Diana Cavalieri has been “trapped behind enemy lines as a spy for Manticore,” the synopsis states.
The only way out is to trust an unlikely ally, Edo Zani, heir to Manticore Italia and son of Ettore, the head of the Italian organization, who is vying for leadership of the sinister syndicate against other European families.
Along with De Angelis, the cast of the Italian film “Citadelle” includes Lorenzo Cervasio, who plays Edo Zani; Maurizio Lombardi, who plays Ettore Zani; Tecla Ruiten, Giulia Piaton, Filippo Negro, and Bernhard Schütz.
As previously announced, “Citadel Diana” will launch globally on Prime Video on October 10.
The show is produced by Cattleya (known for “Gomorrah”), which is part of ITV Studios, and Amazon MGM Studios. The show is executive produced by the Russo brothers' AGBO. Gina Gardini (“Gomorrah”, “ZeroZeroZero”) is the show's executive producer.
“Citadel: Diana” is directed by Arnaldo Catinari and developed by Alessandro Fabbri, who is also the main screenwriter. He wrote the series with Ilaria Bernardini, Gianluca Bernardini, Laura Colella and Giordana Mari.
