You've heard Donald Trump scream “fake news” countless times, and now his running mate is claiming — without evidence — that the media is using “fake polls” to show Vice President Kamala Harris leading in the presidential race.
In an interview on Fox News SundaySenator J.D. Vance claimed that “the media is using fake polls to lower Republican turnout and create discord and conflict with Republican voters.”
Another poll we conducted this morning showed, Washington Post“The ABC is giving the vice president a four to five point lead nationally,” Fox News anchor Shannon Bream told Vance. “These are new numbers, so if you think the momentum is not swinging, or the internal polls are saying otherwise, every other poll that has come out has shown significant momentum in her direction.”
The poll released Sunday showed Harris with the support of 49 percent of registered voters, compared to 45 percent for Trump. The gap is now three points (47-44) with Robert F. Kennedy in the race. Harris had a points lead over Biden in the polls shortly before he dropped out of the race.
“I think there are a lot of polls that show it stagnating and flattening out,” Vance replied. “Of course, I don't think that's true.”Washington Post It was a pretty inaccurate poll in the summer of 2020. And look, if you see the numbers that we're seeing, and you actually talk to the American people, I feel very confident that we'll be in the right place by November.
Vance also tried to claim that “if you talk to people in the Kamala Harris campaign, they are very concerned about where they are.”
Another poll of potential voters, conducted by The New York Times A Siena College poll released Saturday showed Harris leading in two key swing states — Arizona and North Carolina — and gaining ground in Nevada and Georgia. Conservative pollster Rasmussen, a Trump favorite, even showed Harris up by a point in a head-to-head matchup in Michigan, another key battleground state. That poll also showed third-party candidates pulling support away from Trump in the state. Harris’ lead grows to three points with those candidates included in the poll.
Of course, the race is still early—Hillary Clinton led the polls for much of the 2016 race—and much of Harris’ lead is within the margin of error. But with the Democratic National Convention this week, Harris’ lead is likely to widen. So expect more cries of “fake polls” from the Trump campaign.
But whatever they say, these polls are bound to worry the Trump camp. Perhaps that’s why Vance is making pointless attacks on Harris, like this morning comparing her to the late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein (who was a close friend of Trump’s). “Giving Kamala Harris control of inflation policy is like giving Jeffrey Epstein control of human trafficking policy,” Vance said.
Meanwhile, Trump is traveling to campaign events on a private jet that was once owned by Epstein.
