After canceling everything Jack Black says the remaining dates of Tenacious D's Spicy Meatball tour in July diverse The popular comedy duo announced Tuesday that they are “coming back.”
When speaking to publishing in Border areas “We need to take a break. Everybody needs a break at some point,” Black said at the premiere. “And we’ll be back.”
Last month, while the comedy duo was performing in Sydney, Australia, bandmate Kyle Gass wished him a happy birthday on stage, saying, “Don’t miss Trump next time,” in reference to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. In the wake of the incident, right-wing politicians in Australia have called for Tenacious D to be deported.
In a statement, Gass issued an apology that was later deleted. He wrote: “The line I improvised on stage Sunday night in Sydney was extremely inappropriate, dangerous and a huge mistake. I no longer support violence in any form, what happened was a tragedy and I am deeply sorry for my utter lack of sound judgment. I deeply apologise to those I let down and am truly sorry for the pain I caused.” Gass was later dropped by his talent agent Michael Greene of Greene Talent.
In a separate statement, Black said he was “shocked” by Gase's comments and that he “will never tolerate hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.” Black also announced that Tenacious D had canceled its tour and that “all future creative plans are on hold.”
Talking to diverse On Tuesday, Black was asked if he had spoken to his old friend and bandmate since then. Black replied, “Yeah, we're friends. That hasn't changed. These things take time sometimes… and we'll get back when we feel like the time is right.”
“Look what I wore today: I wore Pick of Destiny,” Black continued. “I love Tenacious D. This is probably my favorite job, if you can call it that. It’s a work of art, it’s my baby.”
Border areasThe film, which will be released next Friday, features a star-studded cast including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, and Black, who voices the robot Claptrap.
