Jack Black Says Tenacious D Will ‘Be Back’ After Kyle Gass Controversy

Jack Black has weighed in on the future of Tenacious D after his bandmate Kyle Gass made a controversial statement about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in July, prompting Black to cancel the duo's final tour.

“We need to take a break. Everyone needs to take a break at some point,” Black said. diverse“And we will be back,” Auburn’s Mark Malkin said at the Borderlands premiere Tuesday night.

Asked if he had spoken to Gus since the tour was canceled, Black replied: “Yes, we're friends. That hasn't changed. These things take time sometimes… and we'll be back when we feel like the time is right.”

Black also showed off the magic guitar pick that appeared in the 2006 comedy film “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.”

“Look what I wore today: I wore Pick of Destiny,” Black said on the red carpet. “I love Tenacious D. It’s probably my favorite job, if you can call it that. It’s a work of art, it’s my baby.”

Last month, Black announced on social media that he had cancelled Tenacious D's current tour amid backlash against Gus, who made a controversial comment at the rock duo's concert in Australia regarding the attempted assassination of Trump.

Tenacious D was performing at Sydney's ICC Theatre on July 14, the day after the shooting at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in which the former president was shot in the ear. At the show in Australia, Black presented Gus with a cake on stage to celebrate the latter's 64th birthday. When Black asked Gus for a wish, Gus replied, “Don't miss Trump next time.”

“I was shocked by what was said on the show on Sunday,” Black said in a statement at the time. “I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.”

“After much consideration, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans have been put on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding,” Black added.

On the horizon, Black stars in the sci-fi comedy Borderlands alongside Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis. Black voices Claptrap, a multi-purpose robot featured in the RPG series on which the film is based.

“It feels like it was meant to be in the stars, in the galaxy, in the universe,” Black said of being a part of “Borderlands.” “I often think about the multiverse — how, for example, there are an infinite number of different realities, and how lucky I am to be in this one. This is Jack Black’s best reality.”

“Borderlands” hits theaters Friday.
