Jessica Alba’s Netflix Action Thriller Trigger Warning Releases Its Trailer

Summary

  • Jessica Alba and director Mouly Surya have opened up about their upcoming action thriller,
    Trigger Warning
, which released its official trailer today.
  • Alba expresses her admiration for strong, femal characters like Ripley from the
    Alien
    franchise and Sarah Connor of
    Terminator
    fame.
  • Surya found it a “little surreal” working with Alba at first, praising the actress’ fiery personality and straightforwardness on set.

It’s been over 20 years since Jessica Alba first suited up as the genetically enhanced Max Guevara on television’s science fiction drama Dark Angel. And while the Golden Globe-nominee admittedly hasn’t done a ton of choreographed fight sequences since, the actress is ready for the challenge in her upcoming Netflix project, Trigger Warning. However, the action thriller did test its star’s mettle when it comes to pulling off those larger-than-life on-screen brawls. Alba said in an interview with Tudum:

I haven’t really done hand-to-hand combat and intense action in such a long time. For me, I really wanted it to be a more intimate kind of fighting experience if I needed to take somebody out.

Trigger Warning is directed by Mouly Surya. John Brancato, Josh Olson and Halley Gross are credited with writing the action thriller’s screenplay, while Erica Lee, Basil Iwanyk and Esther Hornstein serve as producers on the project.

First-Look Images, Jessica Alba Reveals Admiration for Ripley & Sarah Connor

Following her time on the TV show Dark Angel, Jessica Alba made a number of her best movies, including Into the Blue, Fantastic Four and Honey. And while the actress hasn’t played a physical role quite like the one she portrays in Netflix’s Trigger Warning for quite some time, Alba is a huge fan of powerful, female characters — not unlike Dark Angel’s protagonist, Max. Alba said in the same discussion with Tudum:

I loved Luc Besson’s La Femme Nikita. I also loved Ripley [Alien franchise], and I love Sarah Connor in Terminator.

In a recent interview, Jessica Alba discussed the film industry’s lack of diversity.

In the summer of 2021, Alba revealed that she was about to begin filming Netflix’s Trigger Warning. So, it’s taken nearly three years for the action thriller to come to fruition. And for director Mouly Surya, meeting Alba for the very first time turned out to be a “little surreal.” Surya told Tudum:

“It was a little surreal.
We talked for an hour or so, and it was totally unexpected talking with your teenage idol basically out of nowhere.
At first, I didn’t know how to act around her.
But then slowly you start to see actors as [people].
Jessica is very fiery,
and also she’s straight up.
She will tell you exactly what she thinks, and I love that about her.”

Alba also serves as an executive producer on the project. Jeanette Volturno, Jason Clark, Jonathan Fuhrman, Daniel Jason Heffner, John Brancato and Josh Olson are also EPs for the film. Trigger Warning co-stars Anthony Michael Hall, Mark Webber, Tone Bell, Jake Weary and Gabriel Basso.
