John Ashton, Character actor who starred alongside Eddie Murphy in a movie Beverly Hills cop Serial died at the age of 76.
The actor's representative confirmed his death to TMZ, adding that Ashton died on Thursday in Fort Collins, Colorado, after a battle with cancer.
Ashton is best known for portraying Sgt. John Taggart alongside Axel Foley who plays Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold. Billy Rosewood is in three of the four Beverly Hills cop Films: 1984 original, 1987 sequel Beverly Hills Cop IIAnd this year Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Fwhere Taggart was promoted to the position of Chief of the Los Angeles Police.
Ashton's other notable roles include playing Eric Stoltz's father in the teen comedy written by John Hughes. Kind of coolbounty hunter Marvin Doerfler in the 1988 action comedy Midnight Run, and a pitching coach in 1994. Little Big Leagueand the Boston detective in Ben Affleck's new 2007 film Baby gone gone.
During her acting career, which began in the early 1970s, Ashton also appeared in episodes of television series mash, Starsky and Hatch, Dallas, Law & Order: Special Victims Unitand the revival of the eighties The twilight zone.
“John leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication and service,” Alan Sommers, Ashton’s representative, said in a statement. “His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, children and grandchildren, as well as his brother and sisters, his extended family and all who loved him. John's impact on the world will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come.
