“He sings a lot as an alternative, and he’s a genius. I’ve been a fan of his for about 20 years. When I was writing these songs, the first thing that came to my mind about who I wanted to produce these songs was Sufjan, because I love how dreamy he is, how weird he is, and how much of his personality is in everything he makes,” Legend said. “And I just felt like he would be the perfect energy for a kids’ album: to combine his songwriting with his production and his arrangement and his playing. You can hear his influence throughout the album and I love that.”

Legend added of Stevens: “I was so happy that he agreed because you never know if someone is going to want to do a kids' album with you, and we had never worked together before. We had never met before we started working on this album.”

“I want the kids to feel the love that I put into it, and I want them to be able to pass that love on to their families and loved ones,” Legend said of the album. “I think the messages on the album are ones that we would love to share with our kids, and I have a feeling that a lot of parents would want to share it with their kids as well, and it would make me happy if they could do that.”
