One of Minnesota's Greatest Artists to Be Celebrated Before Gov. Joffre's Address
John Legend will perform at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, welcoming vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to the stage and paying tribute to one of that state's most popular artists, Prince.
The singer will perform a haunting tribute to the late icon before Walz takes the stage to accept his party's vice presidential nomination. The performance will also serve as a tribute to the Gopher State, where Walz rose from high school football coach to state governor.
Legend is no stranger to Prince's music, having previously provided the Purple One's music for Prince's “Let's Go Crazy” tribute in 2020, where Legend played a piano version of Sinead O'Connor's “Nothing Compares 2 U.”
In addition to all the speeches at the Democratic National Convention, the Chicago event so far has included performances by Jason Isbell and Mickey Jetton, a surprise appearance by Lil Jon, a 50-song setlist for the 50 state delegates, and a new performance of Beyoncé’s “Freedom.” (The event did not, however, include a performance by James Taylor, who was absent from the opening night show.)
