John Oliver Curses Out Emmys as He Eulogizes His Dead Dog


“You are very good girls, and very good boys. You all deserve a reward,” he said to the world’s puppies.

At the Emmy Awards on Sunday, John Oliver provided the perfect counter-programming as he praised his dog while accepting the award for Outstanding Written Variety Series for last night.

“We had an amazing dog. She was at my wedding. She helped us through the pandemic. She was with us through two pregnancies,” Oliver began before the iconic playoff music tried to throw him off the stage. “Perfect choice of music! We had to say goodbye to her.”

Then Oliver pointed to the music director, shouting loudly, “Go to hell!”

“I feel like Sarah McLachlan now,” Oliver joked, referring to the often-played, tear-jerking commercial about animal cruelty. “She was an amazing dog, and this isn’t just for her. This is for all dogs! All dogs. You’re very good girls, very good boys. You all deserve a reward.”

He concluded his speech to applause, ordering the Emmys to “play me right now!”
