Jorge Ramos Will Leave Univision After 40 Years


Legendary Mexican Journalist Anchorman Jorge Ramos, who has led Univision's news coverage for 40 years, will leave the network at the end of the year. Ramos announced his departure during a broadcast of Noticiero Univision on Monday, revealing that he would not renew his contract with the company.

“I have something personal to share with you. I am leaving Univision. The company and I have decided not to renew our contract, which expires at the end of the year,” he said in Spanish. “I will be with this newscast until December. Ramos has co-hosted Univision's Noticiero since 1986 and hosted a weekend magazine show called The PuntoFor decades, he has been a leading voice in Spanish-language media, winning 10 Emmy Awards throughout his career. “I am very grateful for these four decades. This has literally been my second home. I am very proud to have been part of this wonderful team of journalists over the years. They are my friends and family and I wish them the best,” Ramos said in a televised broadcast on Monday.

Ramos concluded his speech by talking about his future plans, which he will reveal later, adding: “There is a lot to do in the field of journalism, and this makes me really excited.”

“Right now, I just want to thank all of you who see us every night and who have been with me for so long,” he said. “This is not an immediate goodbye. I will be here tomorrow to tell you the news.”

Ramos' daughter, Paula Ramos, a frequent contributor to MSNBC, shared a video of Jorge's farewell on Instagram, congratulating him on “the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.”

In a statement, Noticias Univision President Daniel Coronel thanked Ramos for his years at the company, saying the team was “well prepared to continue the tradition of journalistic excellence” that the brand has built over the decades. Ramos’s departure comes nearly a year after fellow Mexican journalist Leon Krauz left the network after disagreeing with Televisa Univision’s coverage of an interview with Trump conducted by the network’s Enrique Acevedo.
