Kamala Harris Is Clobbering Donald Trump in the Money Race

Kamala Harris raised $361 million in August, nearly three times the cash that Donald Trump revealed he had raised last month.

Since taking over as the Democratic vice president, the vice president has outraised Trump in the fundraising race, raising about one and a half times as much as the former president.

Harris’s campaign and its committees raised $671 million in July and August, according to figures released by her campaign on Friday. Trump’s campaign and committees raised $139 million in July and $130 million in August, according to his team.

The latest fundraising underscores how Joe Biden’s July 21 withdrawal from the race and Harris’s immediate rise to the top of the ticket have dramatically transformed the 2024 presidential race. In the second quarter of this year, before Biden dropped out of the race, Trump reported a fundraising lead over Biden.

Now the money race is no longer on the cards — and Trump must increasingly rely on support from outside groups funded by billionaires that can accept unlimited donations.

The switch to Harris appears to have greatly improved the Democrats' chances — while Biden has consistently trailed in the polls in swing states, Harris appears competitive in all of them.

The shift has also alarmed Trump, who has repeatedly complained that Harris is the Democratic nominee, not Biden, and he did so again during a Fox News town hall on Wednesday night.
“He got 14 million votes, and then they threw him out,” Trump said. “It was a real coup, if you think about it.”
