The show marks the rapper’s first live performance since Drake beef
Kendrick Lamar has announced a one-off concert in Los Angeles in honor of Juneteenth. The show, set for the Kia Forum and produced by pgLang and Free Lunch, is entitled The Pop Out — Ken and Friends and will kick off at 4 p.m. on June 19.
The rapper shared the news of the event on social media, but has yet to reveal the full line-up (we can safely assume it will not include Drake). Presale tickets for the concert will be available today, June 6, at 10 a.m. PST via the Cash App Card, while the general on-sale starts June 7 at 10 a.m. PST on Ticketmaster.com.
The name of the concert, “The Pop Out,” is a reference to a lyric from Lamar’s recent hit single “Not Like Us,” which sees him rapping, “Sometimes you gotta pop out and show n—s/ Certified boogeyman, I’m the one that up the score with ’em.” It’s the same track that takes aim at Drake with the verse, “Say Drake, I hear you like ‘em young/ You better not have to go to Cell Block One/ To any bitch that talk to him and they in love/ Just make sure you hide your little sister from him.”
The rap war between Lamar and Drake has been going strong for several months now. Since Lamar took aim at Drake with his verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” in March, the Compton and Canadian rappers have traded dozens of verses. In May, Rolling Stone declared Lamar the ultimate victor, noting that “overall, Lamar’s shots hit harder.”
