Convincing Hugh Jackman to reprise his role as Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool was a stroke of genius, especially after he was thought to have retired from the role with the release of the critically acclaimed Logan in 2018.
The actors and characters they play, who are highlights of Fox’s X-Men era, are beloved, and by bringing them into the MCU via the multiverse, Marvel could avoid the unwelcome task of completely remaking them. Now, even if the characters are recast, their origin stories exist within the MCU, so Marvel Studios can simply continue their stories without the burden of completely re-introducing them.
