Belfast rappers Nickab make their big screen debut in a highly entertaining biopic about their unlikely rise to stardom and grassroots struggle for Irish civil rights. Self-described 'drug-peddling scum' turns to defending their mother tongue With the Northern Ireland Identity and Language Act due to be passed in 2022. Director Rich Peppiatt Catch lightning in a bottle with patellaa serious portrayal of how oppressed and angry youth find their voice and lead the “ceasefire generation” to reclaim their heritage.
The hip-hop trio plays the music and tells their life story, which begins with an opening track depicting British tyranny in Northern Ireland. patella Especially excellent thanks to its constant reliability. The contemporary plot begins with Naoise being beaten and Liam being arrested by “scrubbers” (a slang term for the Royal Ulster Constabulary) at a concert. Liam refuses to speak English while in custody. Detective Ellis has to get an Irish translator to begin the interrogation. Caitlin, a community organiser and supporter of the Irish Language Act, is suffering from a hangover after a rally the night before. She asks her music teacher friend, JJ O'Dochartay, soon to be known as “DJ Provay”, to go in her place. He doesn't want to be there, but is impressed by Liam's tenacity. JJ's plot thickens dramatically when Ellis hands him the only clue – A yellow notebook filled with Liam's Irish rap lyrics..
patellaLiam’s message of preserving Irish culture in the face of overwhelming odds echoes bravely throughout the story. The trio discovers the meaning of life as they forge a new path together. Liam and Naoise’s chance encounter with JJ was a twist of fate, but he didn’t take the chance to join the brave young men. His teaching career, his place in the community, and his relationship with Caitlin were not easily ignored in pursuit of artistic goals. JJ literally had everything to lose. Rap music has given light and expression to the black experience in America. Rap music has inspired nickelodeon to fight for radical change with words, not guns. Their story is fascinating and vividly told in one of the best films of the year.
