Lady Gaga gave a dazzling performance of René Jeanmaire's “Mon Truc en Plumes” (“My Thing with Feathers”) as part of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Gaga, who has been spotted in the host city over the past few days, walked down some steps along the Seine River as she paid tribute to Jeanmaire, accompanied by a troupe of eight dancers holding pink feather fans, then moved to the piano to continue her performance before returning to her feet for a dazzling finale.
In addition to Gaga's performance, the Olympics opening ceremony includes 85 boats carrying Olympic athletes from each nation on a four-mile procession along the River Seine — and only a portion of it has passed before the televised event turns to the pop star.
This is Gaga's first time performing at the Olympics, and the short but stunning performance rivals her 2017 SuperBowl halftime show in terms of immediate global impact.
The show was designed by stage director Thomas Joly, known for the successful rock and opera musical “Starmania,” and brought together 3,500 actors, dancers and musicians. The Friday night concert is being held outside a stadium for the first time in history and features some of Paris’s most famous landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower.
As previously reported, Celine Dion is also set to perform at the opening ceremony. This will be the pop legend's first performance since halting her tour schedule and stepping away from the spotlight after being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in December 2022.
Gaga's next show is the Venice Film Festival premiere of “Joker: Folie à Deux,” where she takes on the role of Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix's Joker.
Gaga has also returned to the studio to work on her seventh album. Over the past few months, Gaga has been posting photos and posts about the upcoming release. “I can't wait for you to hear what I'm working on. I'm writing some of my best music in a long time,” Gaga wrote.
