Legacy of Monsters’ Season 2 Sets Production in Australia

Season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, produced by Apple TV+ and Legendary Entertainment, is set to film in Queensland, Australia. This marks a significant shift after the first season of the action-packed adventure series was filmed in British Columbia, Canada.

Location attraction agency Screen Queensland said the show would be able to access state subsidies provided through the Queensland Government's Production Attraction Strategy. It would be the largest series ever filmed in the state and would generate more than A$115 million ($76 million), the agency said.

The series follows other Legendary Entertainment films produced in Queensland, namely “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire”, “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “Kong: Skull Island”.

“Following the devastating battle between Godzilla and the Titans that devastated San Francisco and the startling revelation of the true nature of the monsters, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters follows two brothers who follow in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secret organization known as Monarch. The dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways in which epic and spectacular events can resonate in our own lives,” reads an official synopsis.

Season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is executive produced by Chris Black, along with Joby Harold and Tori Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures. Matt Shakman, Andy Colville and Jane Roskind serve as executive producers. Matsuoka Hiro and Arita Takemasa are executive producers on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd. of Japan, the owner of Godzilla. Toho licensed the rights to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters to Legendary following a long-standing film franchise relationship between the two companies.

“This has been a successful year for film production in Queensland, and the Miles Government is proud to welcome this important series to sunny Queensland. Queensland Arts Minister, Leanne Enoch, said: “Season two of ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ will provide jobs for around 1,000 local cast and crew. It’s a huge boost for the small businesses that will help deliver the production – everything from accommodation, medical services and catering to security, transport and costume supplies.”
