The Oasis bandmates may or may not finally be back in action this week, and Liam Gallagher has only fueled the rumours with the singer's social media activity this week.
In the midst of this week’s Reading Festival – which the Britpop band headlined 24 years ago today in 2000 – reports emerged that the Gallagher brothers have settled their 15-year feud and will announce a series of UK concerts in 2025, including a 10-night gig at Wembley Stadium (breaking Taylor Swift’s record of eight gigs) and shows at Heaton Park in their hometown of Manchester.
The Times The rumours were first reported by The Daily Mail, who claimed that “industry insiders” had confirmed that Oasis would be returning to the stage for the first time since August 2009, with an announcement imminent, possibly as early as Tuesday. The rumours quickly spread on social media on Saturday, eventually catching the attention of Liam Gallagher, who tweeted in response to fan inquiries, “News to me” and “I don’t know anything”.
But as the day progressed, Gallagher — perhaps sincerely or sarcastically — began to fuel reunion rumors. When one fan said he was “scared” by the potential announcement on Tuesday, Gallagher tweeted, “You’re scared, how do you think I feel?”
Most tellingly, when a fan complained that Oasis were playing at Heaton Park, which was a “terrible place,” Liam sarcastically replied, “See you up front you big idiot.”
The excitement continued on Sunday morning: When asked when the tour would be announced, Liam said, “Next Friday.” When asked about his plans for 2025, he tweeted, “World domination.”
“I never liked the word FORMER,” Gallagher added in a separate tweet. The singer also lashed out at a group of dissidents with a series of phrases including “shut up” and “your attitude sucks.”
Meanwhile, Noel remained completely silent on the subject.
While rumors of an Oasis reunion have repeatedly resurfaced but ultimately disappointed fans over the past decade, this year's Rumor Tour coincides with the 30th anniversary of the band's debut album. Sure, maybe.which received a new re-release and a Liam-focused tour earlier this year.
In June 2023Rolling Stone I spoke to Noel — who seemed more reluctant to reunite than Liam — about making up with his brother. “I’ve accepted now that this is never going to go away,” Noel said of the reunion rumours.
“I made it clear that if Liam really wanted to do this, he would have to call me, and he didn’t call me, so I just assume he doesn’t want to either. Well, I know for sure he doesn’t want to either, but he likes to draw this picture, you know, of this little fucking guy sitting with his bag packed by the door, you know, like the little fucking cat from the movie ‘Fuck.’ a partnerYou know, the damned little Spanish cat with the big teary eyes. “I [gonna] “Go do it now for your fans. I love you.” It’s like, “Okay, call me then.” And he didn’t call me. And until he does, it’s not going anywhere.”
