Linkin Park Selects Emily Armstrong as Singer, Plots Tour and Album

Linkin Park announced during a live concert Thursday that Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara will be the lead vocalist on the album, and Colin Brittain, the songwriter and producer of G Flip, Illenium and One OK Rock, will join the band as drummer.

The announcement came Thursday as Linkin Park released a new single, “The Emptiness Machine,” the band's first new song in seven years and the lead single from an upcoming album, “From Zero.”

“From Zero” is set to be released on November 15 (via Warner Records) as Linkin Park’s first full-length album since 2017’s “One More Light,” and is also Linkin Park’s last album before the death of lead singer Chester Bennington.

The band will also embark on a six-date tour in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul and Bogota. You can check out the full tour itinerary below.

Linkin Park — featuring new members Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix and Joe Hahn — performed together for the first time in Los Angeles on Thursday for ticketed fans who were bused to a studio. The event was streamed live and will be available to watch on Linkin Park’s official online channels for the next 24 hours.

According to a press release, Shinoda, Delson, Farrell and Hahn “quietly began to meet again in recent years” and “rather than trying to restart the band,” they worked with several musicians and “found a special kinship with Armstong and Britten.”

“Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero,” Shinoda said in a statement. “The title of this album speaks to that humble beginning and the journey we are currently on. Sonically and emotionally, it’s about the past, the present, and the future—embracing our distinctive sound, but fresh and full of life. It’s made with a deep appreciation for our new and old bandmates, friends, family, and fans. We’re proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years, and excited for the journey ahead.”

“The Emptiness Machine” is said to “evoke the DNA of Linkin Park.” Shinoda said the band feels “really empowered with this new lineup and the vibrant, new music we’ve made together,” adding that they “weave together the sonic touchpoints we’ve become known for and are still exploring new ones.”

Pre-sale tickets for the “From Zero” tour will be available to the LP Underground fan club starting September 6. General sales will begin the following day on September 7. The band is also set to perform their first Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe on September 6.

The announcement comes after Linkin Park released “Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023)” earlier this spring. The 20-track album compiles the band’s best-selling songs from over two decades. Released via Warner Records, it features hits including “In the End,” “Burn It Down,” and the Jay-Z medley, “Numb/Encore,” as well as “Lost,” which helped propel its parent album, “Meteora,” back into the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.
