“I turned the year’s biggest bop into a sad sad slow jam,” Rogers wrote on Instagram
BBC Radio One’s Live Lounge often brings out the best of the biggest stars, capturing them as they reimagine songs by other artists, but in their distinct style. On Monday, Maggie Rogers stopped by the Live Lounge to perform an acoustic rendition of Tate McRae‘s radio staple “Greedy,” slowing down the track and backing it with only guitar and piano.
“I turned the year’s biggest bop into a sad sad slow jam for BBC,” she wrote on Instagram, tagging McRae, who reshared it, writing, “Omggggg.” The rendition hears Rogers hitting high notes and elongating lines as she strums her guitar.
Along with playing the McRae track, Rogers performed “Don’t Forget Me,” the title track from her third album, out April 12.
“The song is a rough journal entry about going to a bunch of friends’ weddings and feeling so happy for them, but also realizing that I’m very simply in a different place in my life,” Rogers previously said about the track. “I’ve joked with my friends that it’s a song about having low expectations, but really, I think it’s about craving simple baselines – a good lover or someone that’s nice to me.”
Don’t Forget Me — co-produced by herself and Ian Fitchuk — features songs such as “The Kill,” “I Still Do,” and “So Sick of Dreaming.” She’s set to go on tour for the album in late May, as well.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor was the last artist to visit the Live Lounge last month, where she performed her hit “Murder on the Dancefloor” and a cover of The Last Dinner Party’s “Nothing Matters.” McRae also visited the Live Lounge last year and performed her single “Uh Oh,” along with a cover of Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away.“
