Maxie Salters, a well-known public relations representative, writer, actress and producer in the entertainment community, died suddenly on Thursday. The cause of death has not been announced. She was 37.
Born in 1987 and raised in Sherman Oaks, California, Salters graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA in Theater. After graduation, she began her career in casting in film and television while also working as a coordinator for One Billion Rising, a nonprofit organization that seeks to help end violence against women and others at risk of gender-based violence. She has appeared in numerous productions and created, produced, and starred in her own web comedy series.
In 2012, she became the third generation of her family to enter the public relations field, following her father Larry and her late grandfather Lee. Her clients at Scoop Marketing include the Kia Forum, the Hollywood Bowl, Music Forward, and many others. Solters has also been involved in V-Day International and women's rights.
Survivors include her father Larry and his partner Carol Greenhat, her mother Deborah Graf, her aunt Susan Reynolds, her cousin Jonah Reynolds, her longtime partner Dame Dobrin, and her dog Pookie (pictured above).
A memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Maxie's name to the One Billion Rising Foundation.
According to its website, “One Billion Rising is the largest grassroots campaign to end violence against women (cisgender, transgender and gender-blind people who experience gender-based violence) in human history. Launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, the campaign began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped in her lifetime. With a global population of 7 billion, that’s more than one billion women and girls.
