Mel Brooks, Asa Butterfield Join ‘The Land of Sometimes’ Animation

Comedy legend Mel Brooks and “Sex Education” star Asa Butterfield have joined the voice cast of the upcoming animated film “The Land of Someday.”

Based on the original audiobook by Francesca Longrigg and a screenplay by Tony Nottage, The Land of Times follows twins Alfie and Elise as they embark on adventures with mysterious creatures after being transported to a magical island by a wish collector. The story explores themes of family and self-discovery.

Brooks and Butterfield join the previously revealed cast of Ewan McGregor (“Obi-Wan Kenobi”), Helena Bonham Carter (“The Crown”), Alicia Weir (“Matilda: The Musical”) and Jessica Henwick (“Glass Onion”). The film also features one of the final performances by the late “Monty Python” alumnus Terry Jones.

Leon Goosen (“Saving Santa”) is directing the project. The film is produced by Two Daughters Entertainment and Nottage Productions. Bonnie Arnold (“How to Train Your Dragon”) and Alan Yentob (“Billy Elliot”) are executive producing alongside Two Daughters CEO James Richlos and CEO Simon Bobin. Nottage serves as a producer on the film.

Kaleidoscope Film Distribution is handling international sales and will screen clips from the film at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

The EGOT winner, 98, brings his distinctive comedic flair to the project. Known for his work on classic films like “The Producers,” “Blazing Saddles” and “Young Frankenstein,” Brooks’ involvement brings a touch of Hollywood royalty to the animated film. The comedy icon has lent his voice to several animated projects in recent years, including roles in “Toy Story 4” and “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank,” the latter of which was a loose animated remake of his film “Blazing Saddles.”

Two Daughters Entertainment, known for the animated series “Moley,” is expanding its family-oriented content. The company is represented in the U.S. by Zero Gravity Management.
